How to Make Money With Private Label
Content
by Kathy Burns-Millyard
If youre an affiliate marketer or website publisher, you
probably already know that Private Label Rights (PLR) has taken
the industry by storm this past year. But you may not fully
understand what PLR is, or how to use it to make money.
So well start with the basics. Private Label Rights are
similar to buying ghostwritten material. Someone else writes
content in the form of articles, ebooks or reports, then they
sell a limited number of PLR rights to others. Those who buy
the Private Label Rights are then allowed to edit and customize
the content for their own needs.
In other words, lets say youre a website publisher who has a
site about golf. And you buy private label rights to a beginner
golf ebook. You can then, because of the rights granted, edit
the book. You could add your own content throughout, change
parts of the book, add your own affiliate and website links and
so on. And another part of buying private label rights: You can
put your own name on the work. In other words, you can claim to
be the author of the golf ebook you purchased PLR for.
So, like ghostwriting, the bulk of the work is done for you.
You then have the right to put your name on it and sell it or
give it away to others.
Now the exact terms of the private label rights you buy may
vary slightly from one source to another. In general though,
youre allowed to edit and customize the work, put your name and
copyright on it, and not have to attribute or link to the
original author. Youre not usually allowed to sell the private
label rights you bought though. You have to substantially edit
a work before youre able to then offer it with a private label
license itself.
One of the most popular types of PLR is article packages.
Depending on where you buy them, you could purchase packages of
5, 10, or 20 articles all focused on a specific niche topic. In
some cases you have to join a membership site and pay monthly
fees, and usually you get hundreds of PLR articles with
those.
Articles are popular PLR materials though, because it makes
building or growing websites quick and easy. Lets say you dont
have a golf site yet, but you want to build one. If you write
all the content yourself, it could take months to get the site
up to a nice competitive size. If you wanted to get the site
larger faster, you could of course hire freelance writers to
create the content for you. This can unfortunately be quite
expensive though.
So a nice inexpensive yet quick alternative is to buy
private label article packages about golf. Then you could
simply publish those articles as they are, or edit and
customize them to fit your own site best.
Buying a package of ten or twenty PLR articles can help you
get a site live, operational, and earning money within just a
few hours. If you want hundreds of pages of content, youd
simply buy several article packages on the same topic, or
subscribe to a membership site which offers new batches of PLR
articles on that topic regularly.
Now there are many other ways to use private label articles
for profit, and Ill touch on those in future articles. Briefly
though: You can use PLR articles to create an autoresponder
course, an ebook focused on a specific niche topic, or free
reports that you use for viral marketing of your websites and
affiliate programs.
